Dr. William Lane Craig

Bio

Dr. William Lane Craig is the founder and creative voice behind ReasonableFaith.org — one of the web’s most influential Christian apologetics websites. The mission of which is “to provide in the public arena an intelligent, articulate, and uncompromising yet gracious Christian perspective on the most important issues concerning the truth of the Christian faith today”.[1]  This mission can be subdivided into 3 distinct parts:

  1. Provide an articulate, intelligent voice for biblical Christianity in the public arena
  2. Challenge unbelievers with the truth of biblical Christianity
  3. Train Christians to state and defend Christian truth claims with greater effectiveness

Born on August 23, 1949, in Peoria, Illinois to parents Mallory and Doris Craig, Dr. William Lane Craig became a Christian as a junior in high school. Upon graduation, he attended Wheaton College before pursuing postgraduate work at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, University of Birmingham (England), as well as the University of Munich (Germany).[2]

Dr. Craig has authored or edited over 30 books on Christian apologetics. Some of his works include The Kalam Cosmological Argument, Assessing the New Testament Evidence for the Historicity of the Resurrection of Jesus, Divine Foreknowledge of Human Freedom, Theism, Atheism, and Big Bang Cosmology, as well as God, Time, and Eternity. Links for each of these books can be found at the end of the article.

Dr. Craig has debated several notable atheists including Sam Harris and Christopher Hitchens. He has published over 100 articles in professional journals such as The Journal of PhilosophyNew Testament StudiesAmerican Philosophical Quarterly. He was named by The Best Schools as one of the 50 Most Influential Living Philosophers.

According to Dr. William Lane Craig (Famous Quotes)

“It’s no longer enough to teach our children Bible stories; they need doctrine and apologetics.”

“If there is no God, then man and the universe are doomed. Like prisoners condemned to death, we await our unavoidable execution. There is no God, and there is no immortality. And what is the consequence of this? It means that life itself is absurd. It means that the life we have is without ultimate significance, value, or purpose.”

“Therefore, when a person refuses to come to Christ it is never just because of a lack of evidence or because of intellectual difficulties: at root, he refuses to come because he willingly ignores and rejects the drawing of God’s Spirit on his heart. No one in the final analysis fails to become a Christian because of a lack of arguments; he fails to become a Christian because he loves darkness rather than light and wants nothing to do with god.”

“As Christians we face two tasks in our evangelism: saving the soul and saving the mind, that is to say, not only converting people spiritually, but converting them intellectually as well. And the Church is lagging dangerously behind with regard to this second task. [emphasis added]”
