Meet an Apologist: Professor John Lennox

John-Lennox

John Lennox is a “must-see” for anyone struggling to justify their faith. His training as a professor of mathematics makes him uniquely qualified to tangle with some of the most brilliant minds atheism can bring to bear. The strategies used in his debates with Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens should serve as models for the rational defense of God in their brilliance and simplicity.

In my opinion, every church youth group and summer camp should have an hour dedicated to watching these debates. Professor Lennox is doing invaluable work in providing a rational defense of the faith to the masses. At a time when the Church is working desperately to prevent folks from walking out, the importance of apologists like Professor John Lennox cannot be understated.

According to Professor John Lennox (Famous Quotes)

“Either human intelligence ultimately owes its origin to mindless matter, or there is a Creator. It is strange that some people claim that it is their intelligence that leads them to prefer the first to the second.”

“Nonsense is nonsense even when spoken by world-famous scientists.”

“Faith is a response to evidence, not a rejoicing in the absence of evidence.”

“Faith is not a leap in the dark; it is the exact opposite. It’s a commitment based on evidence… It is irrational to reduce all faith to blind faith and then subject it to ridicule. That provides a very anti-intellectual and convenient way of avoiding intelligent discussion.”

“I’ve learned to distinguish between the greatness of God and the inexcusable evil that has been done by those professing his name. And so I do not deduce [as Christopher Hitchens does] that God is not great, and that religion poisons everything. After all, if I failed to distinguish between the genius of Einstein and the abuse of his science to create weapons of mass destruction, I might be tempted to say science is not great and technology poisons everything.”
